ABOUT DR. DREW SHESSEL

Dr. Drew Shessel was inspired to pursue a career in oral surgery by his father and grandfather, both of whom were practicing physicians in the Atlanta area before him. Raised locally in Buckhead & Sandy Springs, he always knew he wanted to return home to provide his oral and maxillofacial surgery services. He attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate studies and then completed his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. While there, he received a scholarship for excellence in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Before beginning his residency, he completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery internship at Louisiana Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Then, he moved to Florida to continue his training at Broward Health Medical Center and Nova Southeastern University. While in residency, he excelled in a full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery training program that included the treatment of a wide range of oral and facial conditions as well as the safe administration of all forms of anesthesia.

After successful completion of his residency, Dr. Shessel sought a private practice opportunity that would allow him to provide the kind of personalized patient care for which he is known. He and his surgical team strive to offer the highest quality service with a caring touch that always ensures the best interests of his patients.

With his kind, patient and friendly demeanor, he enjoys being a part of the team at Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta. He finds it incredibly rewarding to be able to offer patients an array of oral surgery services.  He has specific interest in dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, and the treatment of oral pathology.

CERTIFICATIONS

Dr. Shessel is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, thus asserting his exemplary knowledge of the OMS specialty. He completed a rigorous written exam, as well as a four-part oral examination to attain this status.

As a “board-certified” oral surgeon, Dr. Shessel has demonstrated his comprehensive knowledge of the specialty, and his ability to act in critical surgical situations.

Dr. Shessel also holds current certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.

INTERESTS

Outside of work, Dr. Shessel enjoys spending time with his girlfriend and his dog “Bogie”. He and his family are avid hikers and travelers and can be found exploring all over the southeastern United States and beyond!
